Not Fictional: Gorgonzola Cheese Sandwich, have you?

—Have you a cheese sandwich?

—Yes, sir.

Like a few olives too if they had them. Italian I prefer. Good glass of burgundy take away that. Lubricate. A nice salad, cool as a cucumber, Tom Kernan can dress. Puts gusto into it. Pure olive oil. Milly served me that cutlet with a sprig of parsley. Take one Spanish onion. God made food, the devil the cooks. Devilled crab.

—Wife well?

—Quite well, thanks … A cheese sandwich, then. Gorgonzola, have you?

—Yes, sir.

Ulysses, a classic by James Joyce. It is the best novel 📕 in the English Language, as well as the hardest book to read with over 1,500 pages. And to be honest, I didn’t read the whole book myself, but, perhaps, quite a few chapters (I find it easier to read it by chapter)!

In fact, what I remember most from the chapters I read is this gorgonzola cheese sandwich from episode 8, Lestrygonians (Maybe because I have written an essay on that, and it really is a fun read!)

Celebrate James Joyce with this reconstructed gorgonzola cheese sandwich . (And you will want to finish this greatest novel in history! 🤓)

4 slices Bread of your choice
 50 g Gorgonzola Cheese
 2 tbsp Butter
 20 g Cream (whipped)
 ½ cup Red wine
 ¼ tsp Dijon Mustard
a handful of Salad veggies (Lettuce/Baby Spinach)

1

Heat a small skillet over medium heat and melt ½ Tbsp of butter. When the butter melts, add a slice of bread (I used sourdough bread as it sounds more authentic), and brown both sides. Repeat with the other 3 slices of bread.

2

Whip up the gorgonzola cheese for a creamy texture. Mix together the whipped cream and cheese for a lighter and smoother bite (You can add more or less whipped cream to your own taste!)

To prepare red wine-mustard reduction
3

Whisk together the red wine and mustard. Bring the mixture to a boil, and until the liquid is thickened.

To assemble
4

Layer the sandwich so you have bread, salad veggies, whipped gorgonzola cheese, drizzles of red wine-mustard reduction, and close the sandwich lid with the final piece of buttered bread. (No worries, this whipped gorgonzola cheese will not be too strong for you.)
