Your Swedish temptation: Jansson’s Temptation

How do you like your potatoes 🥔 cooked? Deep-fried? Roasted? Or the CREAMY gratin-style? Jannson’s temptation is the Swedish 🇸🇪 version of your favourite Creamy Au Gratin, while the one difference is that it is richer, creamer and more savory than its French counterpart.  Rather than grated cheese, the julienned potatoes is blended with sweet onion and briny anchovies 🐟 that lend a meaty umami backbone to your dish.

 600 g Potatoes
 ½ Onion
 6 Anchovy fillets
 1 cup Whole milk
  cup Hot stock
 2 cups Cooking Cream

Preheat the oven to 180 °

Julienne the potatoes and finely chopped the onion. Season the potatoes with pinch of salts and black pepper. Add in the chopped onion and anchovy, then mix well. Spoon into an ovenproof dish and pour over the stock, milk and cream.

Cover with foil and bake for 1½ hours until soft, Remove the foil, return to the oven and continue to bake until starting to crisp (Tip: You can sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for more crisp.) Allow to rest for 10 mins before serving.
